CSS Reboot Fall 2005
Admittedly I hadn’t heard of CSS Reboot until about an hour ago when I read about it on SurfiOnline, but I think it is a nice take on an almost CSS Zen Garden style competition (though both of them are not really competitions).
Looking through the entries you can see exactly why CSS is so great, and also why it can used badly. Some sites submitted are amazingly pretty, now if I could just read the text thats practically the same colour as the overly ornate background. Some others, the ones I like most, go for stylish simplicity. A nice graphic here an there, with good colour selection and easy to read text.
And of course a tiny select few manage both highly complex and beautiful as well as usable. Bastards, I hate them!
My personal favourite, dotone. Simple, elegant, very easy to read, easy to navigate, and valid XHTML. You got 5 stars from me. Given that the previous incarnation of the site appears to have been a huge flash app, this is a gigantic improvement. (of course with flash block, all I got was a big play button

Getting those fixed positions to stick in IE requires a bit of a hack. I’m not in favour of it, but Tag Soup webdesign have a good fix and works for I.E. 5+.
